Tossa de Mar - The pearl of the Costa Brava (Girona)

Located between Lloret de Mar and Sant Feliu de Guixols, Tossa de Mar is one of the most attractive tourist destinations on the Costa Brava. Like all the towns on the Costa Brava, visitors come looking for the summer sun and the blue of the sea that bathes its beaches. But Tossa de Mar also offers all visitors a beautiful walled old town from medieval times.
 
We find the first important settlements in Roman times. Tursam is the first name of the city dating from the time of Emperor Calomagno. Its location, away from the main land routes, has favored the conservation of the walled enclosure and all its medieval-looking alleys.
This means that today we can enter between the walls where we will discover that Ava Gardner has a statue as a tribute to the movie "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman" that was shot in Tossa de Mar and that helped promote it in the decade of the 50 of this population internationally.
Following the wall we will arrive at the remains of the Old Church of San Vicente (15th century) where the sacristy and the apse retain the roof. We will also find in this area the Tossa Lighthouse that will give us excellent views over the sea. On the way back we will continue discovering corners of the wall while we observe a beautiful panoramic view of the medieval streets of Tosa and its Platja Gran.
We advise visitors to get carried away by their instincts and enter the narrow streets where they will discover typical fairytale corners and gardens.
 
Tossa de Mar offers us three splendid sandy beaches. Platja Gran is the largest with almost 400 meters of sand and gives us a fabulous view of the wall with its imposing towers. Mar Menuda and El Codolar are the other two beaches located at both ends of the town. For lovers of quieter beaches we find small coves with crystal clear water 50 minutes walk north, although we can also get there by vehicle a few meters away. Three of the most visited are Cala Pola, Cala Giverola and Cala Futadera.
 
Tossa de Mar is a world-renowned town ideal for family tourism. During the day, its beaches with calm and shallow waters allow the little ones to jump and play quietly. We can also make an exit, from Platja Gran, in a boat with a transparent bottom to contemplate the underwater world of the area. Other options will allow us to make excursions by boat to visit nearby towns on the coast.
Adventure sports lovers will find ideal areas for scuba diving, snorkelling or kayaking.
 
And at sunset, the Paseo Marítimo offers us a long journey to contemplate the sea and the illuminated wall. Around the perimeter of the promenade we will find numerous restaurants and cafes, although our recommendation is that visitors look for the small charming restaurants that are found between the small streets. In them you can taste the local cuisine with its popular seafood dishes cooked by local people.
