Madrid Treasures

In addition to innumerable museums of the most visited in Spain, in the Community of Madrid we find four treasures declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
 
The Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial, the Historic Center of Alcalá de Henares, The Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez and the magnificent Hayedo de Montejo located on the border with the province of Guadalajara.
 
- San Lorenzo de el Escorial. This monastery was built under the reign of Felipe II to commemorate the victory in the Battle of San Quintín in 1557. In its dependencies we find the library and the basilica along with numerous spaces of the highest historical value. All this surrounded by a spectacular natural space such as the Sierra de Guadarrama.
 
- Alcalá de Henares. We find ourselves in an ideal city for a walk contemplating its streets and squares full of historical corners. Miguel de Cervantes was born here, and it is the only city in the community declared World Heritage.
Essential visits are the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, the Regional Archaeological Museum, the Archbishop's Palace, the Hippolytus House or the Complutum ruins where we can feel like authentic Romans.
During the month of October we can attend the largest vintage market in Spain during Cervantes Week.
 
- Aranjuez. This city was the spring residence of the Bourbons. Important is the visit to the Royal Palace, the Museum of Royal Barges, the Casa del Labrador and its bullring almost two hundred years old. We also find the natural environment of the banks of the Tagus where the Sotos and Historical Gardens stand out, which in the past were the supply point of the Court.
We can go up on the Strawberry Train, a historic train with wooden wagons and hostesses dressed in vintage that will offer us typical products of the area.
 
- Hayedo de Montejo. We find in this area a spectacular natural space at the foot of the Sierra de Ayon. It is an old pasture of beech, white oak and rebollos that has been declared a natural heritage of humanity.
