A Coruña is a city open to the sea, a port of passage for most routes between northern and southern Europe. Its port has been used since historical times by Romans, Celts and Vikings. It has the nickname of "city of glass" for the galleries located in its main square and it is said that no one is a stranger in the city, given the open nature of its inhabitants.
The Tower of Hercules is the oldest working lighthouse in the world and has become the emblem of the city. In its streets we find numerous examples of Romanesque architecture that are mixed with modern buildings. In the neuralgic center of the city is the Plaza Maria Pita where we can sit on one of its terraces to contemplate the elegant façade of the town hall or visit one of the innumerable churches that its historic center has.
A Coruña also has excellent museums, the House of Sciences, the Museum of Fine Arts, the House Museum of Emilia Pardo Bazán or the Domus are an example of this.
At sunset we can walk along the promenade, the longest in Europe with its 13 kilometers, which borders the entire city and leads us to Riazor beach. In front of the port we can admire a set of modernist style glass facades known as the Galleries of La Marina. The gastronomy of Galicia boasts of having excellent seafood: crabs, barnacles, spider crabs, crayfish, etc. The octopus "a feira", the pork shoulder with turnip greens or the typical empanada are classics in the gastronomy of the area.
In the surroundings we can visit towns such as Betanzos, Santiago de Compostela or Ferrol. All these towns can be accessed with our La Coruña low cost transfer service from La Coruña airport.
